1) How long have you guys been together?
we've been playing since we were in high school, about ten years ago. but The
Tender Box was formed about a year and a half ago.
2) Noticed you have been to the UK before.
What was that for and how long ago?
we were in London for a week in July.
we had five gigs scheduled during that trip, but we had an unfortunate incident with our guitarist and bass player, Ric and
Steve. they didn't get past customs at Heathrow Airport due to work permit issues, or lack of. but Joey (singer) and i made
it through, and we were able to pull it off at the gigs by playing acoustic sets.
despite of what happened, we managed to get ourselves on NME.com, NME Magazine, The Mirror, DListed.com,
and other English sources all within that week. which is good publicity for when we go back.
3) What did you like/dislike about the UK?
the energy at the live shows there is amazing. people
in London are really open minded when it comes to new music, they're hungry for it, and they show it. it's not like Los Angeles
where it's un-cool to show that you like a new band, or even walk up to the front of the stage, unless everyone else
likes them. the music scene there is alive and kicking all over the place, which is what we need and want. and the
people are great as well. everyone was very sympathetic and understandable when we explained why only half the band was on
stage.
one minor thing we can honestly say we weren't too happy about was the food. coming from Mexican backgrounds
we like our food with spice. at times it was hard to find a good restaurant that could satisfy us, but The
Marathon in Camden was the spot to go to at 3:00am for good food and drinks.
4) Read that you re influenced
by lots of Britpop bands. (Depech Mode etc) What do you think of the more recent music scene in Britain......e.g. Coldplay,
Keane, Snow Patrol, etc?
while in London we were fortunate enough to being
introduced to The Rifles and Razorlight. these are bands that are just scratching the surface out here in the states.
we're actually going to see Razorlight on August 30 at The Roxy in Hollywood. besides Coldplay, and Keane, we like
bands that aren't so mainstream, like Kasabian, and Primal Scream. we've always been influenced by the Brit Pop scene more
than American bands. that's just what we grew up listening to.
5) When did you find out you were supporting the Goos?
we found out last week August 9 through our manager that we were going to
be in the UK a lot longer than expected. we're all very excited to go back, specially Steve, who's the only one who's never
been. Ric had visited the UK before any of us had. it took a while for it to sink in, but now we're getting ready for it.
6) Where you Goo fans at all prior
to this?
we like the work the Goo Goo Dolls have done. they're great songwriters and good live. i've actually
seen them live before at a festival, a few years back. but we never really grew up listening to them. we were more into Oasis,
Blur, The Verve, you know, bands like that.
7) The Goos hadnt been to
the UK much.......until earlier this year. Now they are coming back Sept/Oct for a second visit in less than six months. Many
fans have travelled to the USA to see them in the past. How do you feel about supporting a band with such an established and
loyal following?
we're very excited and grateful to have the opportunity to support the Goo Goo Dolls. they're
at a level that we would some day like to be. we hope to leave a great mark with them and the people going out to
their shows. we couldn't of asked for a better opportunity at this point in our careers.
8) Have you met with the band yet?
we
haven't met with the band yet, but we have seen Robby at parties at Swinghouse Studios, our recording grounds
in Hollywood.
9) Is your album gonna be released here in the UK soon?
before the complete album is released we're releasing a UK single in September through So
Sweet Records. it's for our track, "Mister Sister." we're still looking for a record deal in the UK, so we plan to break the
ice with this single first. but we will have copies of our full length with us while on the road in the UK.
10) What you looking forward to most about your trip to the
UK?
we're looking forward to leaving a huge impression on the people who get to see us, making new
fans, meeting new people, and discovering new music. we hope to get inspired with this experience, but overall,
we look forward to having a great time.
